MAJOR INITIATIVES
Here are the major initiatives in progress in which LIRIDE is involved:
RRECQ
The Quebec research network in circular economy (RRECQ) brings together the forces that aim to strengthen the capacity to deploy circular economy strategies at the scale of industrial sectors and territories, supported by coherent government policies, in a perspective of sustainable transition for society. CIRMIB
The mission of the Centre for Research on Materials, Infrastructure and Sustainable Buildings (CIRMIB) is to contribute to the development of new materials and tools to improve the service life of new and existing structures and buildings. The initiative aims to extend the life of structures and buildings and develop new materials with a reduced carbon and environmental footprint. Learn more

Chaire Net Zero
The Research Chair in Net Zero Strategies and Sustainability Assessment develops interdisciplinary approaches to support responsible decision-making with regards to climate change mitigation. By integrating life cycle assessment and paradox management, the Chair designs, tests, and supports net zero strategies at various application scales. The Chair also aims to help professional and governmental sectors to enhance their environmental and social performance amid increasing uncertainty and complexity. Learn more

Next-Generation Wood Construction
The main objective of the Next-Generation Wood Construction collaborative research initiative is to overcome several challenges that continue to limit the use of wood in the construction of tall and large-scale buildings. From a sustainability perspective, the program aims to advance wood usage by identifying new opportunities. Structured around four key themes, it supports numerous research projects and brings together a wide range of experts from across the country. Learn more

Using buildings as a strategy for reducing GHG emissions
This initiative supports the development of policies, standards, and action plans aimed at decarbonizing the building sector in Canada. It is based on the creation of a framework that identify optimal GHG reduction pathways at various scales. In the long term, it aims to foster climate-resilient and economically viable building stock. Learn more

Bio-sourced epoxy for microelectronics
This research initiative aims to assess the potential of bio-based epoxy resins as a sustainable alternative to petroleum-based resins, particularly in the field of microelectronics. Although promising to reduce toxicity and environmental impact, their performance, biodegradability, and toxicity remain largely underexplored. This project investigates these aspects to meet the high standards of the industry and promote the adoption of greener materials. Learn more

MAJOR INITIATIVES COMPLETED
Here are the major initiatives completed in which LIRIDE was involved:
ICI
The Industrialized Construction Initiative is a research initiative whose mission is to promote the use of industrialized construction in the building sector. Its more specific objective is to support the use of industrialized construction in multi-storey buildings. It aims to promote accessibility to markets within a 1000 km radius by demonstrating the performance of this method of construction, including its energy and environmental performance. Learn more

LCA²
The LCA² initiative is a collaboration between the NRC and other federal government departments, academia, non-government organizations, industry partners, and low-carbon asset experts from across Canada. Its goal is to develop a science-based approach to support the selection of materials and designs that offer the lowest carbon footprint while offering the lowest total cost of ownership, for buildings and other civil infrastructure. Learn more

Green-SEAM
The Green Surface Engineering for Advanced Manufacturing (Green-SEAM) is a strategic network to facilitate collaborative research by leading Canadian researchers and their industrial and government partners in surface engineering solutions. Learn more
